Certifications

I obtained my CF certification in 2021, accredited by the AFA. This involved successfully passing a comprehensive written exam, crafting a horseshoe board with 12 modifications based on hoof-shaped templates, and meeting specific scoring criteria. The practical component required me to perform a half-set horseshoeing on a horse within a strict one-hour timeframe while adhering to specified parameters.

Annually, I enroll in the Heartland Horseshoeing School's certification course in October. This program not only aids in advancing my education but also enhances my forging skills. It adequately prepares me for upcoming examinations.

In 2022, I embarked on the path to becoming a Certified Journeyman Farrier (CJF). So far, I have successfully completed two out of three parts of this rigorous certification. The CJF examination is notably more demanding, with an extensive written test encompassing in-depth questions about pathology, ligaments, tendons, circulation, and hoof structures. The forging aspect involves crafting a handmade bar shoe in just 35 minutes, based on a randomly assigned template. Lastly, the practical assessment entails live shoeing, where the candidate must create four handmade shoes tailored to fit a horse within a two-hour timeframe, adhering to specific guidelines.

My current objective is to attain CJF status this year and eventually become an AFA tester, enabling me to contribute to the certification process for other farriers. Additionally, I plan to go further with international certification testing, exploring opportunities with organizations such as FITS and The Worshipful Company of Farriers, perhaps pursuing both paths. Time will ultimately determine my course of action.

Despite the occasional stress, this journey has been primarily enjoyable and enriching. I have forged numerous friendships and professional connections within the global farrier industry. Furthermore, I have expanded my skills and knowledge, enabling me to offer enhanced farrier services for your horses.
